Brett Lund is a native from the state of
Montana where he was born, raised, and received his education. He
spent four years active duty in the U.S. Army before being honorably
discharged and then joined the Billings Police Department in 1979.
He spent his first 10 years with the Billings Police Department
assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division before applying for and
being accepted into the Detective Division as a Criminal
Investigator. He spent the next 18 years as a Criminal Investigator
until his retirement from law enforcement in 2007. During his years
as a Detective he was involved in numerous criminal investigations
as they relate to local, state, and federal law. These
investigations involved interviews and interrogations, photography,
surveillance, undercover operations with the “City-County Special
Investigations Unit (CCSIU) and ultimate case preparation for
prosecuting attorneys.
In 1997 Mr. Lund received the “Police Officer of the year” award
from the Billings Police Department for his work involving Fraud
related crimes. He was also involved in providing Fraud/White Collar
Crime training to other law enforcement officers and civilians in
Billings and in other communities in Montana and Wyoming.
During his law enforcement career Mr. Lund attended numerous local, state,
and federal schools/training seminars to include a specialized
“Questioned Document Course” conducted by the U.S. Secret Service at
the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia in
1992. Upon completion of this specialized course he began examining
documents as they pertained to criminal investigation. His
examination of documents was primarily in reference to criminal
investigations with special emphasis on handwriting analysis. Since
his initial training he has conducted handwriting analysis on the
following investigations which include, but are not limited to:
homicides, suicides, narcotic investigations, witness tampering,
credit card fraud, check forgeries, arson investigations, identity
theft, disputed civil contract, petition signatures, wills, estates,
and land and water rights documents

just to name a few. Each examination is documented and Mr. Lund
ultimately began to testify in court as a “Handwriting Expert” in
which he renders an expert opinion. He
testifies in both criminal and civil matters in local, state, and
federal courts for prosecuting and criminal defense lawyers.
Mr. Lund has owned and operated Rocky Mountain Crime Consultants as
a Handwriting Expert since 1995. In 2007, he retired from law
enforcement, obtained his Private Investigators license (#8832) from
the state of Montana and subsequently added Private Investigations
services to his Forensic Document Examiner services as
an experienced and knowledgeable professional.
